Singer, songwriter and budding gospel rapper TRP (Real Name Antony Nyamrer) released his second hit single ‘Penda Mungu Wako’ in June 2018 (this year) – to the excitement of his growing army of fans. This exciting, newfangled hip hop sound that he has made his own is certain to gain interest from people of all ages and social status across the country, East African region and the World. The development of his unique style is the result of years of exposure to music. He was born and raised up in the musical Eastlands area of Nairobi that is known to have produced great musical talents in Kenya and the region like Kalamashaka, Gidi Gidi Maji Maji, Warogi Wawili, Juliani to name but a few whom he interacted with while in high school. He often played street basketball with Gidi Gidi, and would accompany the duo of Gidi Gidi Maji Maji to some of their gigs. As such he was always surrounded by different forms of music. He was part of a secular rap group called G-Squad at some point, and they did a few local gigs in Dandora where they all hailed from. His real musical journey began in 2012 when he recorded his first ever solo song ‘Divine Changes’ in a studio in Kericho run and managed by Producer Dan Wisdom. This is after converting from secular to gospel music. He has since then been honing his unique sound which has culminated into the release of his second single ‘Penda Mungu Wako’. If the reception of the song at the release is anything to go by, then TRP is most definitely on his way to making his mark in the gospel music industry and fulfilling his dream of impacting the lives of people through gospel music that inspires and refreshes. His songs provide a combination of mellow vocals, catchy and easy sing-along choruses, rhythmic undercurrents that bear testament to his exposure to music for many years and are punctuated with elements of contemporary urban gospel hip hop.
